At Sweetpea & Willow, we love going out for dinner. And we especially love it when the interior of the restaurant are just as beautiful as the food. Luckily for us, living in London, there’s an abundance of beautiful culinary institutions which provide exactly that. We’ve curated a short list of some of our favourite examples.
NO197 CHISWICK FIRE STATION
As its name suggests, the fabulous ‘No197 Chiswick Fire Station’ is situated in the shell of a Victorian fire station. Industrial style meets LA chic to create a bright and airy space that’s a joy to look at. The white walls and the mostly neutral palette is calming, whilst the witty artwork and neon signs give it real character. We love the use of gold to add an extra layer of elegance. The food is just as pretty as the surroundings and the cocktails are exceptional. Make it your mission to visit.
DISHOOM – SHOREDITCH
The interior of the modern Indian restaurant, Dishoom transports you to a classic Irani style Cafe in Mumbai, with polished geometric tiles adding a touch of Art Deco glamour, exposed pipes and brickwork give off an industrial vibe and traditional Indian art scattered throughout for authenticity. The mixture of materials used gives it an eclectic look which works beautifully to create a busy, bustling feel. The food, modelled off traditional dishes, but given a modern kick, is to die for, and the music, taken from classic Bollywood films, is simply stunning.
THE IVY CAFE – RICHMOND UPON THAMES
Bringing a little bit of West End glamour to leafy Richmond upon Thames is the latest addition to The Ivy’s chain of gorgeous cafe’s. Stepping through the stained glass doors transports you to an eclectic space resembling a cross between an American diner and a 1920s cocktail bar. It looks as though it could have been there forever, but it’s brand new, having opened just last month. Modern, gold chandeliers hang from the ceilings, whilst paintings and prints litter the walls. Bright upholstery, geometric tiles and touches of greenery add the finishing touches to this fabulous spot. Book your table quick!
PALM VAULTS – HACKNEY
Palm Vaults in Hackney, East London is a pastel paradise which expertly uses powder pink and greenery tones to create a tropical oasis you’ll adore spending hours in. So much thought has been put into every aspect of this place, from the forest of greenery which hangs above you, to the beautiful food, made to match the interior. Even the takeaway cups are gorgeous! It’s the perfect place to relax for a couple of hours, enjoy the delicious coffee, listen to some classic R&B and soak up some inspiration.
SKETCH – WEST END
We can’t write about beautiful restaurant interiors without mentioning Sketch! It’s Possibly the most Instagrammed restaurant in London, and for very good reason. Sketch is part restaurant, part art gallery, all glamour. Five separate dining rooms and bars make up this stunning location, each with their own styles and personalities. Our favourite room, The Gallery, is a vast dining hall, coated from floor to ceiling in powder pink, peppered with glistening gold. The walls are adorned with quirky monochrome illustrations by artist, David Shrigley, and the 50’s inspired booths and chairs are upholstered in a stunning pink velvet. Gorgeous!
